Ex PJ officer attempts to burn himself

An attempt by a former Judiciary Police officer to burn himself ended up with being charged with arson.

The officer concerned went to the office of the Judiciary Police (PJ) at Rua Central in the afternoon on 26th, claiming to the media in advance that he had ‘major secrets’ to be revealed.

Sub-director João Augusto da Rosa first approached to the officer, surnamed Ng (吳), to try to stop his act. When Mr Ng attempted to light his lighter on his hand, other officers on stand by rushed to stop him.

Mr Ng then chanted that the leaders of the PJ of power abuse, and claimed that the fire of the storage of combustibles at Ilha Verde in 2003 ‘was not an accident’, and that some ‘can continue to work even though murder was committed’.

He was later sent to the hospital for checking, while being charged with arson and other offences.

The officer concerned joined PJ in 1999. He was under investigation and disciplinary procedures for 10 times during his five years of service, two of which involved ‘severe interference’ to the Public Security Police for carrying out its functions.

He was also found guilty of coaction by the Court, which had made a suspended sentence of a year and six months.
