A summary of happenings on 6 October:
Revenue
Gaming revenue recorded a negative growth in September, a month earlier than the Government predicted. The rate of drop was 0.8%, and is the first negative growth recorded since the SARS outbreak in 2003.
Loan
First batch of interest-free loan cheques will be issued to eligible applicants by the Government tomorrow (8 October). The contingency loan scheme was set up as a result of the substantial damage done by Typhoon Hagupit to local business in late September.
Registration
The Government is to set up mobile stations in various locations in Macau to facilitate voters’ registration. Under the new Voters’ Registration Law, eligible permanent residents of Macau will have to have themselves registered before the end of this year in order to vote in the Legislative Assembly election in 2009. There are about 80,000 eligible residents who have not yet registered as voters.
Contracts
The Government will sign provisional franchise contracts with two bus operators, Transmac and TCM, tomorrow (8 October). Meanwhile, Transmac will introduce five buses measuring 12 metres long in the middle of the month, while additional 25 buses have already been introduced.
